I’ve been involved with dogs professionally for over twenty-three years in a wide range of capacities. These have included simple care for boarding dogs, teaching group puppy and intermediate obedience courses, boarding and training as well as customized private training.

During my 23 years I have not only worked with hundreds of dogs spanning a wide variety of temperaments, but I have also developed a balanced and nuanced approach to interacting with our best friends. This approach includes a deep understanding of a dog’s social sensibilities and it’s desire to know its place in your social structure, an enormous amount of hands on experience using a variety of training approaches including operant conditioning, systematic desensitizing, counter-conditioning and “drive training” as well as more traditional methods including the use of, when necessary, reprimands and corrections.

My overall approach is a balanced one which recognizes that both positives and negatives, as well as appeals to your dog’s social sensibilities, play an important part in training and managing your beloved family companion.

And while my emphasis is always on the positive I am not what is known today as a “purely positive” trainer. My extensive experience with dogs tells me that “(wo)man’s best friend” are, like us, multi-dimensional creatures. Therefore we need a host of training methodologies to help communicate with their multiple dimensions. These include lots of positive reinforcement as well as steady structure, guidance and authority.

With this in mind, I have, over the years, developed a fully stocked “training toolbox” from which to select an appropriate combination of elements to address the unique circumstances of the dog’s and owners whom I help.

Puppy Classes

Group and Semi-Private 6 week programs designed to take your pup from his first moments with you all the way through adolescence and into adulthood. In all programs about fifty percent of the class is committed to play and socialization, the leading preventer of future aggression in dogs. The other fifty percent is split evenly between trust and respect exercises that teach your pup how to allow you to handle them without biting and rebelliousness as well as obedience exercises and emergency commands..

Small Breed Board & Train

In-depth training programs for small friendly breeds tailored to your needs. Includes basic obedience like sit, down, stand, stay, off or leave it, off leash recalls, trust and respect exercises, emergency commands and more.

Rose is amazing! Her kind energy, gentle touch and her obvious love for animals will put anyone at ease that is looking to board a puppy or an adult dog. We had a tricky situation with vet visits and what not, and Rose handled it all and kept me in the loop. Not to mention the sweet video and photo updates. Can’t recommend enough!

We have been using Rose to watch our dog “Olive” for the past couple of years while we go on vacation. We have been extremely pleased with her service! Rose is dependable, responsible and compassionate. Olive just loves her. Rose also has two small dogs-Snowball and Gladys, so Olive is sure to have a good time. Rose provides external ‘field trips’ and also sends short video-clips of our dog which we really appreciate. We are very fortunate to have found Rose and highly recommend her!!

Rose is the best dog trainer. She has helped me so much with great advice for my little dog who has “learning disabilites”. Her training skills are stellar and she has an intuitive understanding of dogs that allows her to know what is needed. I highly recommend her!

Rose is a wonderful trainer and knows a lot about dogs. I recently adopted Frieda, a terrier mix and a rescue. As a first-time owner, I really didn’t know what I was doing. She came with me to meet Frieda before adopting her (to make sure she wasn’t crazy) and then taught me everything I needed to know to take care of her and help her adapt to her new home. Frieda learned basic training at Rose and Mike’s puppy classes and then got additional training when she boarded with Rose for 3 weeks. I had to leave Frieda with her right after she was spayed, and I am forever grateful to Rose for dealing with her recovery and incontinence (ugh!!) with grace and kindness. Dogs need both discipline and love, and Rose knows how to strike the right balance between the two. She is warm and loving but also firm. Over these last 10 months, Frieda has overcome her shyness and become a confident, happy dog. I have Rose to thank for that.
